What are the advantages of keeper training? I am not the only one to recommend keeper training for beginners. The reasons are obvious. To start with, the keeper's skill package is easy to understand without higher knowledge: Take "keeper" plus "experience" as a B-skill, and you roughly know what your keeper is worth. Secondly, you have no tactical bonds. Thirdly, you can switch to another training programme without any complications. Most important for beginners, however, is the fact that you needn't invest large sums to profit well in a relatively short time. Just buy 2 or 3 17-year-old "passables" or better, if you can afford it, solids, be patient enough to sell them at "brilliant" in less than two seasons and give a warm welcome to your first few millions. The disadvantages: The keeper is an important position requiring experience, which your greenhorns don't have, so you must compensate this somehow with your defensive line. You might also say that it is boring to have only 2 trainees with nothing happening for a long time. Most important however: The opportunities to invest more money in order to make more profit are limited, so one day you will have to change to a more costly, but more rewarding training scheme. How many goalkeeping coaches do I need when I train goalkeeping? In the Goalkeeping Trainers federation you can read everything between 5 and 9 with some reason, but so far, I have not read any study to answer this question exactly. It is obvious that the sum of your assitant coaches and your goalkeeping coaches should be no less and no more than 10. So, considering the fact that goalkeeping coaches improve your training effects, while assistant coaches raise the squad's form, furthermore that the coach is only one among other factors that influence form, that in most categories of specialists, the first employee is always the most effective one, while ever additional one lowers the effect a bit, and finally, that in Hattrick, money makes the ball play round, I assume that you should have 8 or 9 goalkeeping coaches to get the best training effects; if, however, you are having a hard time in your league and see that it takes a better form to be successful, go down to 5. Which level yields most profit? HAM's TPE Statistics show these figures (17/09/06):
You can see that, provided you have the necessary funds, you best start with an at least excellent keeper and proceed by no means further than till he is magical, because this is when the salary really begins to hurt even the richest teams. Take into account that you successively have to pay higher salaries for your trainees, too, which eat up part of your gains, so it is not the worst idea to sell at "brilliant". Which is the best week to buy or sell my keeper? If you click open one of the relevant keeper skill levels in TPE Statistics with high selling rates ("solid" to "brilliant"), you can see that players are generally cheapest towards the end of the season and most expensive towards its middle. (With the recent radical drop of prices, this tendency is not so clear, however.) The logical conclusion is that you better buy at the end of the season and sell around the 7th match day. But figuring out the price differences, you will find that they hardly ever exceed 20%. It depends on your financial situation, among other circumstances, if this is really worth waiting for. How can I find out the sub-level of keepers? One of the typical characteristics of keepers is that this species is the only one for which you can give a feasible sub-skill estimation. Many pages, e.g. hattriX-Ray or Hottrick, offer special tools which are fun to play with. But if I want to buy a keeper, I myself prefer my home-made lists, which are much more practicable:
The figures are taken from the Hattrick Organizer tool. These are more carefully set than some other keeper tools, but maybe this is better than being taken by surprise. How can I compare the quality of keepers? Due to the fact that, apart from experience, keepers have no relevant B-skills, it is easy to compare their strength independent from their form according to their salary. Of course, this works best at the very beginning of the season, when no training effects have been added. What is more, the salaries have to be cleared from the 20% for playing abroad.
