THE FIRST CHAMPIONS

LEAGUE CUP

The Champions League Cup is history. It had been created by the Champions League Lobby, a federation whose aim it was to  convince the Hattrick Team of a Champions League feature, the cup being one of their means. With 76 participants from 76 different countries, among them 10 champions and 5 vice-champions, it  turned out to become the best- seeded cup ever played before the times of the Hattrick Masters. With the official introduction of the Masters, the CL Cup became obsolete, and the Champions League Lobby changed its name to Hattrick Masters.

The Rules

Only one team per country was allowed, that is the one with the best national rank of the past season.
The teams were seeded according to their national rank, i.e. all the champions were in the top ranks, followed by the vice-champions etc. If two or more teams had the same national rank, they were seeded according to the HT world population list of 05/09/05 as a second criterion, i.e. the bigger Hattrick nations were ranked higher.
There was a First and Second Division of 32 teams with equal rules (cup mode, elimination system). The remaining 12 teams were grouped in a league of 12 teams. These teams each played 5 matches in the Swiss System.
